Book Reviews: Three Little Words

Book Reviews are starting again now! To those of you who have been waiting, patiently or otherwise, I will contact you individually to discuss your book review requests. I originally wrote the content of this post two years ago. It has taken that long plus further developments to allow me to get back to regular reviewing.

Okay, so I confess, it has been a little time since I have posted. For your delight and delectation I shall regale you with the reason, a mere three words:

Double spine surgery.🥴🤯

Yep. Really. After two years of varying bad to horrendous pain, my back finally gave out and decided that it wasn’t going to play ball any more. That’s what being a gymnast gets you … or maybe it’s hitting the big 5 oh!.

Anyhow. With the great skill and determination of the amazing surgeon’s, nurses and support staff at St Mike’s in Toronto I had a really trippy experience… I will probably write more on that at another time because, honestly, it was weirdly hilarious. Besides it might be useful to anyone else who has to go through spinal fusion.

Since the mad swirly haze of pain killers has now worn off (6 months later), I am back at work full time I will now allow myself to write again. My first foray was of course the NYCMidnight flash fiction competition. I will post this year’s entries once the competition is over so you can judge for yourselves!.*

In Other News

My wonderful brother, for my birthday, decided to gift me an unfitbit, what a hint! Granted 2.5 years of not moving has led to an expansion of the waist (among other things). Thus it was not an unwelcome present.

He also bought one for my 80 year old mother… who is, to be fair, keeping up well with modern technology. She has, however, almost been defeated by her “new best friend”.

And, ironically, I’m allergic to my unfitbit.

A lovely rash with blisters has appeared. My wrist has swollen, and I have moved it to the other wrist to time how quickly I am reacting. At the same time, I am desperately trolling through online stores to find an alternate strap. Thank you Amazon… I have one on the way.

In the meantime my mother and I have between us reached heart rates implying dead and really dead. We have failed to exercise 9 times a day. My mother can’t determine how to change the date so has “eaten” 300,000 calories on one day and none thereafter. Our unfitbits are on the verge of self-destruction. They may have developed AI as a result of our seemingly crazy lifestyle, to take over the world since humans obviously don’t look after themselves properly!

So, I will start reviewing again very soon.**

*I successfully managed to enter the flash fiction competition that year, but not the following years.

** Follow up with a second unrelated 2 month spate in hospital and you can perhaps see that I have not been at the top of my game, nor was I able to continue reviewing books at that time.

However, I am now all thrusters go, and reviewing again. To reiterate, to those of you who have been patiently awaiting a response, I will be contacting you individually to discuss your requests and confirm if you are in my to read pile (or not 😟).
